The US Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has allocated a grant of US$23.5 million to San Diego International Airport to help fund the construction of a new modern and efficient Terminal 1 to replace the existing facility.

Describing the grant as crucial for its new terminal, Kimberley J. Becker, President and CEO, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, said: “This grant will help us create an exceptional airport experience for the community and the world. We are grateful San Diego’s congressional delegation who fought for this funding legislation. The Airport Authority appreciates Congressman Scott Peters’ unwavering support of San Diego International Airport and the region.”

The amount allocated to San Diego is the second largest grant awarded by the FAA in this round of funding.
